Felicity Tse is a Chinese-Canadian creative born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario. She grew up exposed to various cultures while learning to embrace her own. Her illustration brings to life the energetic lion dances performed during grand opening ceremonies and the bustling crowds gathering in the festivities.

Inspired by SUKOSHI’s first store location, she believes Kensington is one of Toronto’s many neighbourhoods that continues to reflect that same vibrancy and liveliness in celebrating the city’s diverse cultures. Pop off this month with MO and this vivacious lion in full glam! Don’t let these fluffy cuties down.

A Taste of Cha Chaan Teng in Motion

Originally from Hong Kong, graphic designer Leila Li moved to Vancouver just two years ago. While still getting to know the city, she finds herself amazed by the flourishing Asian community and cultural diversity present.

Drawing from cherished childhood memories, cha chaan tengs (Hong Kong tea restaurants) were a go-to breakfast spot for her, symbolizing the fast-paced lifestyle of Hong Kong. Despite the morning rush resembling fights for barricade at a BTS concert, she fondly recalls the simple pleasures of enjoying meals and quality time with her parents.

Navigating Nostalgia at Hong Kong’s Wet Markets

Similarly, Hong Kong’s wet markets are another place filled with Leila’s nostalgic experiences. Picture it: a dim and damp atmosphere, saturated with the smell of seafood, fresh veggies, and fruits. Not exactly the most pleasant, right? Nonetheless, she always considered visits to these seafood-scented mazes a fun expedition with her parents.

Sweeping Memories with Walis Ting-Ting

SUKOSHI MART Asian Heritage Month Postcard Featuring: “Walis Tingting” by Maria Fernandez. It features a shiba by a mat selling coconut reed brooms.

Maria Fernandez, a Vancouver-based graphic designer and illustrator, has roots in both Canada and the Philippines. This illustration is reminiscent of leisurely afternoons with her grandma, collecting coconut tree leaves to create walis ting-ting (a handcrafted coconut reed broom) for sale.

Witnessing her grandma’s craftsmanship during these meaningful bonding moments left a lasting impression, deepening Maria’s appreciation for cultural traditions. Want to lend a hand? Hurry and grab some coconut leaves, this cute shiba is waiting for you!
