Who is a woman that you look up to as a mentor? (They can be fictional, real, dead or alive.)

My sister. She has always been so confident and never cared about what anyone thought. Growing up, I’d always ask her, "What would people think of this?” or tell her, “Oh, I've gained some weight." Her response would always be "Who cares?" and "Are you happy?" She is a successful career woman who explores her hobbies unapologetically. She’s only two years older, but sometimes I feel like she’s lived a thousand more lives than me. 

What inspires you the most?

Having meaningful conversations about other people’s perspectives and life experiences. There’s so much value in learning and reflecting on other people’s walks of life. Our own outlook can be so limiting or one-dimensional. Looking at the world in a different way inspires me to walk through life with an open mind and heart.

How do you define success?

I define success as putting your best foot forward in all aspects. I’ve succeeded if I gave my all to a work project, if I was a good listener to a friend going through a hardship, if I took care of a loved one in need. Being kind and working hard is my idea of success in this life.

What achievement are you most proud of?

I’ve gotten into the hobby of bowling, and one of my proudest achievements is my progress. I started with the lightest ball, just aimlessly throwing it at the pins. Now, I bowl with the heaviest ball and have a solid technique which comes with some good strikes.

It took me over a year to get to where I’m at. Throughout that year, I definitely felt a lot of anger and disappointment. But seeing how far I’ve come, the amount of growth that I saw within myself is truly what makes it one of my proudest moments, for sure.

What makes you excited about life?

Genuinely, working at SUKOSHI MART makes me very excited for what’s to come. I went to school for Medical Esthetics, and being a beauty consultant at SUKOSHI definitely helps kickstart my career. Plus, with the help of so many amazing people that I get to work with, it’s truly a blessing and something that I look forward to.

What’s one common misconception about you?

I can sometimes be perceived as being a little dumb because I tend to ask a lot of questions. I'm a curious person, so naturally, I ask a lot of questions, especially about tasks or when an interesting topic comes up while talking with friends. That doesn’t necessarily mean that I have a lack of knowledge.

Who is a woman that you look up to as a mentor? (They can be fictional, real, dead or alive.)

My real female role model would definitely have to be my mother. She's fiery, resilient, and unapologetically herself. As a first generation Filipino-Canadian who came from almost nothing, she's gone through so much hardship but persisted through it all. Her tenacious drive and resourcefulness inspires me everyday.

My fictional role model would be Mulan. Apparently as a toddler, I'd rewatch the movie from dusk till dawn and have always been mesmerized by her badass storyline. (Like, she's a warrior, how can you not be?) I see myself in her and I aspire to be as courageous as she is.

What inspires you the most?

I love being in spaces with like-minded individuals. Honestly, our team at SUKOSHI MART has some of the most talented and innovative creatives I've had the pleasure of working with. Being surrounded by them inspires me to push myself creatively and produce engaging (yet unhinged) content.

How would your loved ones describe you?

“Like the feeling of the warm spring breeze after a long winter” – My boyfriend.

How would your loved ones describe you?

They would probably say I may seem quiet when you first meet me, but I start to let loose once I really know you. I overthink a lot, I'm a pretty sensitive person, and I have a huge sense of responsibility that sometimes overwhelms me. I'm also a creative person, balancing between the practical and daydreaming. I approach life with deep thoughtfulness, but often let my intuition guide me. I have a clear sense of my goals, dreams, and what fulfills me in life. 

What makes you excited about life?

Exploring a deeper purpose beyond society's metric of success like having a house and a car, although those are nice things to have too. I love to constantly learn and experience new things throughout life — in my career, academics, passion projects, etc. Conversations with people from very different walks of life make me realize how much yet there is to explore.

What’s one lesson you’ve learned from another woman?

“Always stand your ground. Don't be afraid to advocate for yourself because at the end of the day, you're all you have.”

What’s one lesson you’ve learned from another woman?

I'm kind of a push-over and often, I brush things off very easily to avoid any conflicts. The true Scorpio she is, my sister is the complete opposite. She's able to stand her ground and be vocal when things are unfair towards her.

What does being a “girl’s girl” mean to you?

A girl's girl is the opposite of a “pick me girl.” To me, it means you don't see other women as your competition when it comes to male validation. You won't be jealous, petty or give back-handed remarks, and you'll put a lot of care, love, and support in your relationships with other women.

What makes you the happiest version of yourself?

Being in an environment where I can just fully be myself. I love being silly and goofy with my friends or family, and just full on belly-laughing until you're crying. Nothing beats moments like that.
